Why do I need SSL on my website?
What's the difference between OptimumSSL and InstantSSL?
Which should I choose, OptimumSSL or InstantSSL?

What's the difference between OptimumSSL and InstantSSL?
The defining function of an SSL Certificate is to establish trust between a website and the end user. For example, the relationship between an e-commerce vendor selling goods or services from their website and the customer using his or her credit card to purchase these goods online.
Trust is only established after two critical steps have been fulfilled:
Step 1. Verify that the applicant controls the domain name featured in the application.
Step 2. Verify that the applicant organization is a legitimate and legally accountable entity.
OptimumSSL certificates establish domain ownership (step 1). This is the same level of validation as GeoTrust QuickSSL, Thawte 123 certificates and Go Daddy Turbo certificates but at a far lower price.
InstantSSL certificates require proof of both domain ownership and verification that the applicant is a legally accountable entity (steps 1 and 2) - the same as much higher priced certificates from VeriSign.
In short, OptimumSSL certificates establish that the company owns the website but doesn't confirm that the company is a registered business with articles of incorporation. InstantSSL certificates provide this extra level of trust to your customers by proving that your company is a legally accountable organization.
Genuine trust between a customer and an organization is only possible when both stages of validation are completed. For enterprise level websites with high volume transactions, we recommend fully validated InstantSSL certificates. We recommend OptimumSSL to smaller merchants that require a fast, no hassle certificate for low volume transactions
