Why do I need SSL on my website?
What's the difference between OptimumSSL and InstantSSL?
Which should I choose, OptimumSSL or InstantSSL?

Q: What is an SSL?
A: SSL is short for Secure Sockets Layer and it is a protocol developed by Netscape for transmitting private documents via the Internet. SSL uses encryption with a "two keys" to encrypt data - a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message. Once a server is secured with SSL and the padlock is displayed on the site, then confidential user information, such as credit card numbers are secured during transmission.
Q: Why are SSL certificates the Standard for establishing Trust in e-business?
A: Safety on the net is essential, and most consumers know to look for the gold padlock, which is the sign of the site being SSL-secured. A site that does not show an SSL Certificate is not likely to be as trusted as a site with this icon of trust.
Q: How do SSLs work?
A: SSL certificates provide a high-level of encryption to protect the transmission of data during online interactions. SSL work by encrypting data as they travel as "packets" through the Internet. Without SSL protection, sensitive information can be viewed and stolen by fraudsters.
Q: Which certificate do most of your customers use and why?
A: InstantSSL is by far our most popular certificate because it provides extra reassurance which drives more visitor conversions - features such as a $10,000 warranty and a patent-pending site seal called Corner of Trust confirming your identity. For site owners, InstantSSL also drives costs down because starting at $99.95 - this SSL is equivalent to VeriSign yet is a fraction of the cost. Further, we offer multi-year discounts, faster issuance than VeriSign, and unlimited reissuance. This SSL provides high level of security AND identity assurance for websites that are focused on ecommerce.
Q: Do you issue trial certificates?
A: Yes - we can issue a fully functional trial SSL. Click here to find out more.
Q: I don't know what sort of webserver I have because I use a hosting company. Can I still use Optimum SSL?
A: Not a problem but you may have to contact your host or put in a request to get them to generate a CSR for you. You can then order with us and send them your certificate to install on your behalf. Be sure you have the freedom to choose your own SSL so you are sure you are getting the most cost effective solution possible (and not being forced to pay for other premium SSL providers).
